The wonders of toothpaste
Posted in Random on March 19th, 2009So, have you ever bought a cd secondhand and opened it to find it completely srachted? Or maybe you’re just careless like me and forget to put your cds in a case, you come back and they’re pretty far gone. Well, I have done both. And I recently bought a cd, Hannah Montana if you must know, (you must have figured out by now that I dont listen to normal music, my ipod is jam packed with jpop and disney music) and I couldnt even play some of the songs it was so bad. Its rather frustrating when they dont label the cd as scratched, I mean, I would have still probably bought it, but they didn’t even say it was, just used. Well, now I know used can mean anything, but alas, I digress.
Well, there’s this little miracle out there called toothpaste. I think I’ve heard of people doing this in the past, but I did google ways to fix sratched cds and toothpaste came up more often. If you’ve never done this, all you do is rub toothpaste on the back of the cd in a circular motion, let it set for 5 minutes, and clean it off, and seriously the cd is like new! I am totally amazed by this newfound discovery. AMAZED. Maybe you people have already discovered this and have known this for years, but I thought I’d share my little epiphany with you, just in case
How does it work exactly, does anyone know? I mean, is it just the little particles in the paste filling in the cracks, or is it buffing it because it is a little coarse, or is it the chemicals reacting with the disk, or what? I’m rather intrigued.

J-pop is amazing! Love your choice of music
Wow! I’ve never heard of toothpaste as a miracle worker, but i’ll definitely try it out. And yes, I’m also quite confused as to how that may be. Good to know, though!

I was wondering how to comment on this thing for awhile. Hehe. Hi! I have a slightly humorous story about toothpaste and cds.
So, my younger brother heard that toothpaste cleans cds from our neighbor. There was a playstation disc that wasn’t working, so he decided to try out the toothpaste theory. I have no idea what he did, but it screwed that cd over.
As I recall, I didn’t care for that game. Or maybe it was after I stopped playing PS2 games. Whatever the reason, I didn’t really mind.
Okay, so maybe that story wasn’t that great. So what? :P

I tried it once but unknown to me my toothpaste had bits (cleaning bead things) in it – and it scratched it even more badly!

Another thing that works on CDs is flushing it in the toilet. Obviously, you want to make sure it’s a clean toilet. Then, just set it in there and flush the toilet. It sounds sooooooooo gross, I know, but I guess the pressure of the water cleans out the particles that are in any scratches and it makes them work again. Just dry with a flannel cloth or something that isn’t abrasive.

P.S. I listen to “that” music too. Hannah Montana, Jonas Brothers, HSM, etc. I’m all about it.
