Originality in Conformity
Posted in Rants on April 23rd, 2009I find it rather amusing the amount of people that use these online social networks to express their uniqueness by means of premade layouts and designs created by others. Yes, you are very original for using other people’s work on another person’s website to describe you. Complaining about how hard the world is when you’re living in your parents house and have no bills to pay. Way to go, you are so cool. They are a dime a dozen on all of these social websites, so are they really being original?
I finally was able to log into my myspace account (I changed emails and could not log in for the longest time since my account was linked to the former one) and must say Myspace is not all that its cracked up to be. The custom layout thing is nice, but most people do not know basic coding and it just clutters up the screen. If they are trying to say they are a disogranized person and are doing it on purpose, then way to go. But I assume they are not. And I tended to get A LOT of spam on there. It was amusing to go through my inbox filled with months of spam. Apparently there are a lot of guys out there who think I am hot. Good to know, pervs. And I went through my friends list and was amazed that I didn’t know half of them. I deleted most of them and was down to 40. I don’t understand why some people friend other people but they don’t know each other and don’t talk to each other. That’s not a friend. So for those of you out there that have over 300 friends, how many of them do you actually know? Displaying that does not tell people who you really are, so sorry, it’s not expressing yourself positively to be friends with complete strangers.
Facebook has similar problems, but overall I like it better. It’s cleaner visually, so people who have no business coding don’t get the chance to, and there is way less spam. Facebook people use it to socialize, not to express their individuality. The apps are made to interact with each other, so the point is not to design your page, but to play with friends.
Basically, if you really want to claim to be original and unique and say that your website reflects yourself, get your own website, code it yourself, and don’t use someone else’s tools to say that you are the shizz. Listing your myspace page as a website is not that impressive folks.

Don’t underestimate facebook! I have a friend who makes a status update every 20 minutes. One day, when she was at a park, she used Google maps to pin point her exact location!
Also, everyone at my college is bragging about their “flash rave” on face book. All they did was stand outside the library, scream, jump off the building, crowd surf, and get maced. I think I would rather have chilled at someone’s house, like I did, or go to a concert.

I absolutely agree with your first statement. Teens are so bent on saying they’re unique, but they use the same repetitive colors, fonts, backgrounds, and graphics everywhere. They can turn you blind with annoyance or with the atrocity of their “designs.” There is nothing original at all about them, not because anything ever is, but because they’re not even trying to find out who they really are and what they really want.
Ugh, I hate MySpace too — and all the people who can’t distinguish a personal website from a social networking site. Facebook IS better, but I’m not crazy about that either. All the applications make me dizzy!

It’s sad, absolutely sad knowing that are some people out there still considering Myspace as a ‘website’..neh,they’re aren’t cool if they claimed that! Same goes to its ’sibling’ site,Friendster.I used to addicted to it during my high school years, and now no more, mainly because it’s already boring! I still using Myspace to keep track of my fave band and listening to new artists,so yeah.
To me,Facebook IS the NEW Myspace/Friendster! I might be bored of it someday, but for now I love it so much because for the main reason, the ‘hide’ function.I can ‘hide’ anybody’s recent activities that really bugs me to death XD..yeah,evil me.
