Time To Flea

Posted in Life, Relationships on December 14th, 2009

To try to do something fun and whimsical over break, Eamon and I decided to go to a flea market close by today. We’ve been there a couple of times before, but it’s nice just to get the delicious cinnamon roasted pecans one vendor sells. Whoever first thought to cover warm nuts in honey and sugar was a GENIUS. Most of the vendors there, however, just sell a bunch of redneck stuff, or junk, or both. Sometimes it feels like a half a mile long yard sale more than anything else. In the past I’ve found some awesome books, or asian decor, and they have a ton of purses.

I came across a diet pill there that made me laugh. Usually there isn’t medical stuff for sale. This vendor had a bunch of medicines and vitamins on display, and was broadcasting loudly about a pill that melts the fat away. Lost weight with no diet or exercise. The usual crap. But, would you really want to buy medicine from a flea market? What’s funny, though, it the guy was at least 250 lbs. Apparently he hasn’t tried his own product. :annoy: Now, I didn’t stop to listen to his pitch, but couldn’t help but look it up. If I heard him right, the pill was called Fastin, which I guess is supposed to imply you lose weight fast, and the company that distributes it is called High Tech. I think they’re trying too hard to work on their image that they don’t think about the actual product. When you hear “fast” and “high tech”, I guess you’re just supposed to think it’s a top of the line get skinny quick miracle and snatch it up quick, but really, it’s nothing new. I guess that’s smart to try to lure people in, but really, it’s the same appetite suppressant as any other pill, priced just as high. Sigh. When will they learn?

Unfortunately, we didn’t find any good deals, but it was worth it for the food, lol. Eamon loves beef jerky, and there was also a guy that makes his own. I didn’t try it, but I took his word for it that it was good. Of course, to redeem the trip for myself, we hit up the Disney Store nearby. I’m so predictable. I found a Snow White ornament, the only princess I’m missing. YAY. It was just too cute to pass up.

And after that, we went home and played World of Warcraft (WoW) for hours! How pathetic is it that I have to cancel my subscription during the school year to make sure I do my homework? At times I wish I never started playing that game, it just sucks out your soul, it’s so addicting! They are constantly adding stuff and remodeling it, there’s always stuff to do. Although, I think the best part is watching the little kids freak out in the game when they start dying. Why do twelve year olds have such a short temper? They die once, and they start griping at everyone, yelling obscenities in all caps, sometimes even just up and leave the game altogether. Some people don’t realize it’s just a game. :annoy: I’m sure I’ll have some funny stories to share with you by the time break’s over, for any of you who actually are interested in WoW, lol.

All in all, it was a good day. If only I could do this every day. :(

Have you ever been to a flea market? Do you play WoW?

Where was this flea market? Was it in Nashville or was it in Knox? It sounds like you had a pretty fun time. I’ve never been to a flea market before. The city that I grew up in had a 3-day event every June called ‘Trash ‘N Treasure’. Basically, people from all over the county came to our town to have a yard sale. It was just a huge collection of yard sales. It was pretty fun. I found a few awesome things and had to work concessions a few times.

Lol, you know I don’t. I just can’t get into it. I’m already not a big gamer and the fact that you have to level up to simply enjoy the game feels like a big snore to me, personally.

    @ Jessica:
It’s on the way to Gatlinburg. The exit off the highway onto the smaller road, it’s literally right at that corner. About 30 minutes from campus. Maybe we’ll take you next time :D

I used to go to flea markets with my parents when I was young, but I never really thought much of them :/ However, now that I’m older, I’d love to go just to see what sort of great stuff I can find :)

Love the Snow White ornament, it’s beautiful!
