Princess and the Frog
Posted in Life, Opinion on December 14th, 2009Anyone see Disney’s newest animated feature The Princess and the Frog yet? I went today with Eamon, mainly because we get double the Disney Movie Rewards points if we go by the 16th, and I like getting free Disney stuff, lol. I have been looking forward to this film for about 4 years now, and I was not disappointed. It’s nice to see them crank out a new movie that really holds up to the legends of their past. They’ve been focusing too much on computer animation that their hand drawn roots were really losing their place in the industry. But not anymore!!

What was really funny about the trip was that we went to the busiest movie theater in town. They probably do 5,000 people on average on the weekends, maybe more. But apparently school is still in session so until the movie almost started we were the only ones in the theater. And the place is state of the art, brand new, luxurious, so it was pretty nice to be alone in it! Then, 2 people walk in and sit 4 rows in front of us, and wouldn’t you know, it was my sister and her friend!
What are the odds?! There were 15 showings that day, and 5 theaters in town playing it, and we ended up going to the same one!! Of course, Eamon had to throw M&M’s at them until they got really pissed and turned around to yell at us, and then laughed when they realized it was me! So we all had the theater to ourselves.
After the show got out, we headed over to Panera to get a coffee and talk about the film. While we were there, a lady sitting near us made a show of displaying her laptop case, apparently from Jack Georges Venezia collection. Never heard of him, but his bags average about $250. For a computer case? That’s a bit much. I thought it was kind of ugly. But we were in the rich part of town, so to each his own I suppose.
What I really loved about it was that it was visually stunning. The animation was so fluid and smooth, it was just amazing watching it on the big screen. And although it was a kid’s movie, it wasn’t aimed at laughs and kiddie entertainment. It really kept my interest the entire way. Most kids movies these days don’t appeal as strongly as the films from my childhood do, even though they are the same quality. I guess since I watched it at that maturity level and liked it, I still like it, even though I don’t like similar new ones now. If that makes sense at all, it’s hard to explain. But this movie didn’t even feel like a kid’s movie to me. Tiana is a strong character that I saw myself in, and the fairy tale magic and pixie dust ending was not what I saw coming, but I loved it so much more than what I had expected. They also dealt with the death of a character in a new way, which was refreshing and actually made the movie even more amazing. All in all, it is one of the better 2D Disney films I’ve seen in a while. If you like Disney at all, you should get a kick out of it. And the music was… so fitting the time period. AMAZING.
Have you seen The Princess and the Frog yet, or are you wanting to?

Good hear you enjoyed the movie! I agree that so many Disney movies these days are too focused on the new technology. The Disney movies I loved when I was a kid may be considered graphically inferior by today’s standards, but they still had all the magic of a great Disney film. Sometimes I think the new style of animation actually spoils it. The old Disney movies were timeless…the Pixar things of today may be fun and entertaining still, but they’re no match for the classics.
As for your question…
Have you seen The Princess and the Frog yet, or are you wanting to?
_To be honest I didn’t even know about it until I read your blog. But I would really like to see it now…I just need to find someone to go with! There aren’t many people in my life who are likely to indulge me as such, lol.

I’m sorry I wasn’t able to comment on the previous entries *cries* because I’ve been all caught up with school and everything. I’m so happy that I have met a fellow Disney lover like you! Usually they think I’m childish, and that really one of my dreams was to work at Disneyland or Disney Co! Talk about me being like Peter Pan right?
And I’m soo jealous that you got to watch it already! It’s not yet opening here in the Philippines and I’m really quite sad! Now that I have a good review on it, I really can’t wait to watch it now! I am sensing that it is different from other Disney movies so whoot, GOOO TIAANNAA!!
I do love more the previous Disney movies but these new ones have a charm on their own. Pixar/Disney is doing a GOOD JOB! Pixar then is my dream company XD haha!!

@ Jessica:
I would go see that movie with you again, and again, and then I’d take my little sister to see it, and my mom, and random people I barely knew, heck, even Amanda to see it it was that good. I would take AMANDA. You must see it
@ Aly:
People need to get in touch with their inner child! You simply need to help them realize this, lol. I don’t know how long it will take for this movie to be released to you guys, but it is definitely an instant classic.
@ tiff k:
And the more I think back on it, the more I want to see it again. Some people think I’m immature to be infatuated with Disney, but when a corporation has such an impact on billions of people worldwide, I think it’s a magical thing and want to be a part of it, ya know?
As long as you keep coming back, it’s ok.
