Becoming Her

Posted in Life on October 28th, 2009

I guess it’s true what they say, as much as you try to fight it, you turn into your mother. You can’t undo DNA.

My mother has always been really into decorating and home improvement and house design and stuff. My entire childhood she was always watching HGTV (Home and Garden Television) and making me watch it with her. For a while I rebelled and didn’t give a care. I thought it was epically boring. Lately I find myself watching it too. :gasp: What has come over me!?

I’ve always had some conception of what my dream house was going to be. A nice castle looking design, grey stone, a turret or two, big spacious kitchen with a buttload of counters. Inside it would be a modern feel with more emphasis on color and shape than on pattern. And until recently, that’s as far as I’ve gone.

The other day I was absentmindedly flipping through channels and saw the usual makeover show on HGTV. I stopped and watched it, and of course a commercial came on for some online home improvement business. Well, being the nerd that I am, I checked it out, and one thing after another I’ve clicked to so many other websites and I found myself at ceramic tiles, getting all excited over the little stone pebbles and the tiles with glitter in them. I would usually be surfing the web for vain frivolous things or watching pointless videos on YouTube. I’m becoming my mother… What has come over me?! I never thought this day would actually come.

Do you ever think about what your dream house would be? If so, what’s it like?

    Hi there :)
I was just passing by but when I saw your post, I can’t resist the urge to comment. :D

OMG. “as much as you try to fight it, you turn into your mother”?
That’s creepy. T_T I just can’t imagine being like my mum. We’re too different from each other…and I don’t wanna be like her T_T
( I love my mum, No thanks, I prefer the way I am.)

But anyway… I think it’s kind of cool, really. I tend to do it too sometimes.( I mean, being interested in furniture and interior designing and that sort of thing.) I mean, who wouldn’t want a better home? I think it’s just natural to be interested in things like that, maybe it doesn’t mean you’re becoming like your mom ^U^ (But maybe it’s just me because I’m a nerd too?)

Anyway,I actually can’t decide what my dream house would be like. Sometimes I want it sleek and modern with glass walls and sometimes i want those comfy cozy kind of homes that reminds me of hot chocolate where there are lots of quilts and there’s a chimney…

Gaaah sorry for the super long post.
    xoxo.

    @ gretch:
Thank you so much for commenting!! Glad you stopped by :D
As much as I love my mom, it scares me to think I could turn into her. But I see it happening with her and her mother, she’s kinda morphing into her personality and habits, so maybe one day I will too :annoy:
But the fact that I actually watched HGTV, which I NEVER did as a kid, it just a little unsettling, lol.
